Who we are

This privacy policy explains how The Devonshire Handyman Services(“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects the personal information you give us when you use this website (thedevonshirehandyman.com) or get in touch with us by phone or email.

We are a sole trader handyman and property maintenance business based in Devon, run by Alfie Batt. We are the data controller for the personal information we collect from you.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your information, contact us by email at info@thedevonshirehandyman.com or by phone on 07738 453 449.

What information we collect

When you fill in a quote request, register your interest in our landscaping & building work, or get in touch by email or phone, we collect the personal information you give us. This typically includes:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • Your postcode and any address details you share
  • The services you’re interested in
  • Any details you choose to share about the job or your property

We may also collect basic technical information automatically when you visit the site, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the site secure and stop spam submissions.

How we use your information

We use the information you give us to:

  • Reply to your quote request or enquiry
  • Visit your property where needed and prepare a written quote or estimate
  • Carry out the work you’ve booked, including any follow-up
  • Send you an invoice and any payment correspondence
  • Keep records that we are legally required to keep
  • Stop spam, fraud, and abuse of our website

We will not send you marketing emails unless you have specifically asked us to. We will not pass your details on to anyone else for their own marketing purposes.

Lawful basis for processing

Under UK GDPR we are required to tell you the lawful basis on which we process your personal information. The bases we rely on are:

  • Contract - to take steps before entering into a contract with you (such as preparing your quote) and to perform that contract once we are working for you.
  • Legitimate interests - to keep our records, prevent spam and fraud, and run our business in a normal commercial way.
  • Legal obligation - to keep records HMRC and other authorities require us to keep.
  • Consent - in the limited cases where we ask for it (for example, if you ever choose to opt in to marketing).

Who we share your information with

We never sell your personal information. We share it only where it is needed to run the business, and only with the following types of third parties:

  • Hosting and infrastructure - the website is hosted on Vercel. Form submissions are processed by their servers.
  • Form and CRM tools - we use, or plan to use, Go High Level to manage enquiries and customer communications. When a form is submitted, the details you provide are sent to our Go High Level account.
  • Email delivery - we may use a transactional email provider (such as Resend) to deliver enquiry notifications to our inbox.
  • Accounting and tax - our accountant and HMRC, where required by law.
  • Payment - your bank when you pay us by transfer. We do not store card details.
  • Tradespeople we collaborate with - if your job requires a specialist (for example, an electrician or plasterer) and you have asked us to introduce one, we will share only what they need to know to help you.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by law or where it is necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety.

Where your information is stored

Most of our suppliers store data in the UK, EU, or United States. Where information leaves the UK or EEA, we rely on the safeguards put in place by the supplier (such as the UK’s adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses).

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above. In practice this means:

  • Quote requests that don’t lead to work - kept for up to 12 months and then deleted.
  • Customer records and invoices- kept for at least 6 years to meet HMRC’s record-keeping rules.
  • Marketing preferences - kept until you ask us to delete them.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Be told what information we hold about you
  • Ask for a copy of that information
  • Ask us to correct anything that’s wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information (subject to our legal obligations to keep some records)
  • Ask us to restrict or stop processing your information
  • Object to our processing of your information
  • Withdraw any consent you’ve given us, at any time, with no penalty

To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@thedevonshirehandyman.com. We’ll respond within one month.

If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your personal information, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We’d ask you to come to us first so we can try to put things right.
